The Ragged Edge Story

The Ragged Edge Story 〰️
It started with an 11-year-old, a Jon boat, and the St. Lucie River.
Captain Chad is Florida born and raised, and long before there was Ragged Edge, there was a kid who wanted to be on the water.
At just 11 years old, Chad bought his first Jon boat and began exploring the then far less-developed shores of the St. Lucie River. What started as a childhood obsession quickly became something bigger. The river became his stomping grounds, boats became second nature, and somewhere along the way, one thing became pretty clear:
The water was always going to be part of his story.
Years later, Chad met Renee while the two were working in the hospitality industry. There was an instant connection—and as they built a life together and began raising their two daughters, their different strengths started to become part of the same story.
Chad understood boats. Renee understood people.
And together, they realized they could bring something to the marine industry that neither could have built quite the same way alone.
Eventually, Chad made the decision to leave the trades behind and build a career around the place he'd always belonged: the water.
Commercial fishing led to private fishing charters. Charters led to towing and salvage. One boat became hundreds, and years on the water turned into countless hours of sea time aboard vessels of all kinds. Along the way, Chad developed an intimate understanding of vessel systems, operations, and the small details that can mean the difference between a great day on the water and a very expensive problem.
His work has taken him throughout the Eastern Seaboard and into the Bahamas, with the Sea of Abaco and surrounding Bahamian waters becoming a particular specialty.
But all those years around boats and their owners made Chad notice something.
There was a gap.
Not yacht management.
Not another charter company.
Not someone planning extravagant vacations to faraway places.
Something much closer to home.
There was a gap between the owner and their boat.
The owner who leaves town and wonders if everything is okay at the dock.
The family who arrives Friday afternoon only to spend the first few hours cleaning, fueling, troubleshooting and getting everything ready.
The captain who needs another experienced set of hands.
The owner who just wants someone they trust to notice when something doesn't look, sound, or feel quite right.
That's where Ragged Edge began.
Chad brings the systems knowledge, seamanship, and years of experience on the water. Renee brings the hospitality, communication, organization, and the details that turn simply maintaining a vessel into genuinely caring for one.
Systems and service. Experience and hospitality. The technical stuff and that little extra touch.
Together, they built Ragged Edge around a simple idea: your boat should be ready for you, not the other way around.
Whether that means weekly systems checks while you're away, coordinating a repair, preparing for hurricane season, provisioning for the weekend, relocating your vessel, or making sure everything is exactly where it should be before you step aboard—we handle what happens in between.
So when it's finally time for your vacation, your staycation, or just a Saturday on the water, you don't arrive to a list of things that need to be done.
You arrive to your boat. Ready and waiting. Every time.
That's the Ragged Edge.
The Crew
Chad
Captain
Capt. Chad is a man “worth his salt.” Chad navigated his way into the commercial fishing world by wholesaling bait. Crabs, to be specific. Chad took a relatively niche market and used it to forge friendships on the east and west coasts of Florida. Through those relationships, Chad became entrenched in the charter industry, eventually working his way up to Captain.
With a taste for the unknown and a thirst for adventure, Chad pursued a career in towing and salvage with TowBoatUS, where his boat handling evolved from good to great, and his third eye for disaster prevention flourished. Chad was becoming highly effective in operations, no matter the circumstances. Here, Capt. learned the importance of preventative maintenance and, more importantly, what to do if things go left fast!
As one thing could lead to another, Chad began delivering boats, traveling the Abacos and the Eastern Seaboard. The longest delivery breached 1,000 NM and stretched nearly the entire coast from Stuart, Florida, to Falmouth, Massachusetts. In his first five-year term as a captain, Chad pushed, pulled, or steered over 15,000 nautical miles.
Having been there and done or seen that, Capt. knew there was only one thing left to do. All of it again.
Capt. Chad is standing by and waiting for what’s next. Poised. Stoic. Ready.
That’s the Ragged Edge.
Renee
The one who makes sure nothing gets missed.
If Chad knows the boat, Renee knows everything it takes to make the experience around it feel effortless.
With a background in hospitality, Renee understands that exceptional service usually lives in the details—the things someone thought about before you ever had to ask.
That philosophy became an important part of Ragged Edge.
Renee brings the organization, communication, planning, and personal touches that connect everything behind the scenes. From coordinating provisions and keeping owners informed to making sure the details are handled before an arrival, she helps turn vessel care into something that feels genuinely personal.
Because there's a difference between a boat that's been checked and a boat that's ready for you.
And while Chad may be the one listening to the engines, Renee is probably the reason your favorite drinks are already cold when you step aboard.
It’s the little things. Renee makes sure they aren't little enough to forget.
The Ragged Edge Difference
WE KNOW BOATS.
We know what looks right, what sounds right, and when something feels off. The little things don’t get overlooked.
WE KEEP WATCH.
This isn’t a quick walk down the dock and a checked box. We look, notice changes, and keep you updated while you’re away.
WE TREAT IT LIKE OURS.
Your boat isn’t another stop on a list. We give every vessel the same attention we’d expect for our own.
